Day 2 on Mission in Port Hedland

Currently we are on Mission at Port Hedland. Yesterday involved a lot of flying! We were up and leaving Doncaster at 6am for our flights. The flight to Perth took about 5hrs, and we landed in Perth at about 11am (1pm Melbourne time).

In Perth we had a couple of hours to kills. We caught a shuttle bus (never ever catch these buses, they are driven by very very weird people!) into the city and had lunch in the mall. We also got to see the river and things. It seemed like a very nice city. I'd love to get back there sometime to look around properly.

We headed back to the airport for our second flight of the day. That was a 2hr flight from Perth to our final destination, Port Hedland. We arrived in Port Hedland at about 5:30-6pm. We were greeted by a couple of the members of the Anglican church who we have come up to help. We were driven back to the church where we met our billets and all headed to our respective homes. Ellisa and I are staying in different places and both have great hospitable billets.

Today (Day 2) was Sunday and we had church. Church starts at 9am here. There is only one service. My role was to run the Sunday School. This was great, we had just under 20 kids, which is awesome for a country town like this. The service seemed full of life, and was very refreshing. Great to see people not so concerned with the process of things, but rather just enjoying the moment and the community. After church finished we had morning tea and then church lunch. This meant there was lots of time for meeting new people. I met some great people today, met a guy who is full of questions and not sure what he thinks but really loves coming to church. I hope we'll see him at the Men's BBQ tomorrow night to follow him up.

After lunch we had a team meeting and ran through our schools play (We will be doing that 3 times tomorrow). Following this meeting we had free-time for the rest of the day. Ellisa's billet Sara took us on a tour of Port Hedland and the surrounding area. Was pretty interesting. Seems like a nice enough place. We then hung out at Sara's house for a while before I returned to my billet's home.

Things to pray:
  • Give thanks for safe travel
  • Give thanks for the generous welcome we have received
  • Give thanks for the work of spreading that Gospel that is happening here in Port Hedland through the Anglican Church
  • Pray for energy for all on the team. We are all feeling pretty tired and a few of us (myself included) feel like we are fighting off colds.
  • Pray that the school plays will go well tomorrow
  • Pray for the Men's BBQ tomorrow night
  • Pray for many opportunities to spread the Gospel with people all day and night tomorrow
  • Continue to pray for our safety.

Many thanks for your support! Hopefully some photos will be following shortly!
